ENGLISH I
Graphic essays should be completed and R and J notes should be studied. Exams are around the corner. Exam will be based on Romeo and Juliet as well as The Odyssey. Odyssey Excerpts
COMPOSITION
We are working on our UTOPIAN SOCIETIES. Your task is to create a society that is so much better that Harrison Bergeron’s Dystopian Society.
You must choose at least 7 of the items below to include in your presentation. You must have 1-3.
- Name of country
- Bill of Rights – Develop a list of five – ten rules that all community members will follow.
- Daily Itinerary – Develop a schedule that a teenager might follow during a typical day.
- Motto – Create a slogan or motto that inhabitants of your utopia will follow.
- Country Flag: What would your country’s flag look like?
- Country Flower/Plant: What flower/plant would symbolize your utopia?
- Country Color(s): What color(s) would symbolize your utopia? And why?
- Country Song: What song would symbolize your utopia?
- Animal: What animal would symbolize your utopia?

You need to work on your graphic essay and continue working on our final Romeo and Juliet Projects
You will need to create a poster for Romeo and Juliet. I will supply you with the Post-it paper. Your poster will be graded for accuracy and appearance. literary devices from Romeo and juliet
Your poster must contain the following: samples 1 2 3 4
- 2 quotes from Romeo and Juliet (you must rewrite quote AND paraphrase it)
- 10 examples of literary devices from Romeo and Juliet (oxymorons, similes, metaphors, rhymes, asides, soliloquies, paradoxes, foreshadowing, puns, personification, etc.)
- 3 symbols that represent the themes from play (ie. Heart for ___, etc.)
- Storyline with at least 10 events from play
The Next Assignment will be The Odyssey

Read and Discuss “Harrison Bergeron” pg. 98 in the literature book. Complete the reflection questions.
The next assignment will be for you to create your own Utopian Society that is preferable to the Dystopian Society of Harrison Bergeron’s life.
