Blogging/Skyping with Ms. Katz’s Class

Here is a listing of our students. I put the Skype Usernames for Ms. Katz’s students.  I tried to send out a message to all of my students with the Usernames of everyone that I have information on.

For this activity we  will discuss a topic from Hurricane Song with Ms. Katz’s classes.  You will need to discuss how the topic relates to you personally and how it relates to the characters in the book.   While you can Skype the discussion, you must post some comments to the blog. Make sure that Ms. Katz’s students have your blog addresses so that they can post to your blog as well as their class blog.  I want you to post to their class blog as well as your own.  Thanks.

Topic:  What does it mean to be a refugee?  What personal experiences have you had that relate to being a refugee?  How does being a refugee relate to the novel?

Merriam Webster

one that flees; especially : a person who flees to a foreign country or power to escape danger or persecution

Wikipedia

a refugee is a person who (according to the formal definition in article 1A of this Convention), owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted on account of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of their nationality, and is unable to or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail him/herself of the protection of that country.

You will need to post to Ms. Katz’s class blogpage.

A refugee to me means someone who is forced out of their own homes. I never really had a experience being a refugee but, my parents fled from EL SALVADOR during a war. They were forced to leave and to come to the United States.

Being a refugee means you need somewhere safe to be. During katrina people were forced out there homes because of the hurricane. They had to flee to different states for safety. Some people went to the super dome. Me personally i have never had that experience. My family left the day before katrina and we arrived at our hotel the morning katrina hit. So i wasen’t really in need of a place to stay cause they reserved a place for us.

Being a refugee means you need somewhere safe to be for the storm. During Hurricane katrina people were forced out there homes because of the hurricane. They had to leave to different states for safety and some people went to the super dome.
