Ted Talks – What do you think?

15 Nov

You will need to watch and respond to 4 Ted Talks. I have selected 2 of them and you will need to select the other 2 from the Ted Talks site or this list

Chimamanda Adichie: The danger of a single story:  Click here to see her video on Ted Talks and you will need to Click here to leave your response as a reply in the Comment box

Pattie Maes and Pranav Mistry demonstrate Sixth Sense: Click here to see her video on Ted Talks and you will need to Click here to leave your response to the video as a reply in the Comment box

Each summary will be posted to your weebly.com ePortfolio.  Following these simple rules (to guarantee a ‘Gentleman’s C’, so to speak):

  • 1) write respectfully and thoughtfully
  • 2) write a minimum of 15 sentences
  • 3) attempt to be “remarkable” — to borrow from TED speaker Seth Godin’s talk — so that visitors will want to “remark” about your post

Beyond that, write in a way that is meaningful and compelling. Each of your written submissions will be individually graded based on the following elements:

  • Clear introductory paragraph and thesis
  • 2-3 body paragraphs, minimum of 5 sentences for each body paragraph
  • Clear conclusion and recommendation
  • Writing style/voice, sentence flow, vocabulary, evidence (from the Talk and beyond)
  • Ability to help someone make a decision as to the value of the specific Talk related to their own interests
Students’ submissions will be individually evaluated based on a) the overall thesis/ideas/creativity/style and b) their writing technique and ‘final’ submission quality.
